Biography

Dr Partha Banerjea has spent the last 25 years at the Maudsley Hospital specialising in high-impact, high-risk adolescent mental health. During his NHS career, he set up and delivered seven distinct services for children and families navigating complex neurodevelopmental disorders and major mental illnesses. His multisystemic model explores the intersectionality of culture, race, class, and neurodiversity to ensure truly individualized care. His work focuses on making a tangible difference for children and their families, combining judicious psychopharmacology with evidence-based psychological therapies to achieve lasting change in family dynamics and child well-being.

He has trained both in New Zealand and London, initially specialising in neurosurgery before switching to psychiatry and ultimately Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, which led him to the Maudsley. At South London and Maudsley NHS Trust, he served as Lead Clinician and held academic posts teaching postgraduate doctors and senior psychiatrists. He also spear-headed psychiatric services for the UN in post-conflict zones and collaborated on primate rehabilitation projects in Southeast Asia. Over the past decade, Dr Partha has cultivated a deep interest in the interface between art and science, presented at international festivals and conferences, and published across psychiatry, social sciences and cultural theory, broadsheet journalism, and music. The families under his care are known to frequently comment on his ability to quickly create a warm and friendly rapport, with many patients forming long-lasting and formative therapeutic relationships.
